In the West we have the Cookie Monster, who sings "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me."
(and now "Cookies are a sometimes food.)
In the Middle East they've got Sheik Muhammed Sharaf Al-Din who sings "The Jews are the people of treachery, betrayal, and vileness"
Now, murderous racism aside, that's a fucking terrible children's show. I mean really. The kids look bored, the guy's about as charismatic as a doormouse, and THERE ARE NO COOKIES.
What they NEED is a Martyr monster. "M is for Martyr, praise be to Allah. M is for Martyr, blow yourself up in a Jewish Disco."
I could not possibly care less about the JonBenet Ramsey case. She's been dead almost 10 years. Her mother is dead. It doesn't really matter whether the perpetrator gets caught at this point. There will be no justice for JonBenet, no justice. She's gone. It's time for us to move on.
The newsmedia does our country a great disservice by focusing on such petty issues as the JonBenet Ramsey case. And it is a petty issue. Yes she was murdered, and yes that is horrible, but how many girls and women are murdered in this country every year? This tragedy is being exploited because she was young and female and pretty and very weird, and it's a combination that captures the public's attention. Newsmakers can sit around and speculate as to what happened and show salacious shots of young girls dressed up as beauty queens, and the public will continue to tune in. But it's just entertainment. You don't learn anything or gain anything from watching this. We know young girls are forced into beauty pageants and we know young girls are murdered from time to time. Those are basic facts of life.
A 10 year old murder case is not news. Of course it's better than half the stuff local shows run out there. Last night I actually saw a report about 2 children, aged 9 and 11, who were left home alone for one hour. Nothing happened to them. Show me someone who wasn't ever left home alone at the age of 9 and I'll show you someone who had smothering parents.
With all that's going on in the world today it's shameful for "news" shows to focus on what is ultimately no more than nationwide gossip. Our government rents out the airways for less than market value in part because broadcasters promise to devote programming time towards informing and educating the public. Spending an hour talking about some crazy guy who confessed to a 10 year old killing is the exact opposite. It is lulling the public to sleep and turning the national debate away from things that matter.
