I hope that this is bullshit.

Not that there's going to be a Britney sex tape, who cares about that? No, what I hope is bullshit is that Britney actually believed that Kevin Federline would "never do this." NEVER DO THIS? He's Kevin Federline. He's the sleaziest bitch any of us have ever seen. He OOZES sleaze. You really think THAT guy wasn't going to sell you out at a drop of a hat?

Don't women have a "That guy is a piece of shit" detection faculty? I mean if Kevin Federline doesn't ring all the alarms...I'm scared for Britney. She could end up with Charles Manson or Osama Bin Laden. "I met this new guy, he's really tall and tan. I think I love him. Sometimes he talks about stuff I don't understand though. He wants me to buy him a dirty bomb. Is that like a fuzzy navel?"

Seriously. Kevin Federline was voted "most likely to videotape women having sex and sell it on the internet" when he graduated from high school. How could you NOT know he would do that?

This is why I don't like the Borat movie.

While in its selling to a 'hip' audience it is portrayed as an ironic wink about how stupid stereotypes and exploitation are, it is in fact a movie that thrives on stereotypes and exploitation. It's a complicated dance meant to allow people to laugh at what amounts to blackface-style mocking of Eastern Europeans. Sure there are attempts to cover this up by catching Americans doing stupid things or displaying politically incorrect attitudes, but frankly that's still laughing AT rather than WITH. The fact that Cohen apparently chose to repeatedly humiliate and embarrass people (some of them pretty helpless) rather than hire actors or explain things to willing participants makes the whole thing rather ugly.

It is one thing to mock and humiliate the rich and powerful, as Cohen did on the Ali G. show. It is another for a rich comedian to do so to some of the poorest people on the planet. And once he has done that, his mocking of Southerners, New Yorkers, and other not-so-defenseless people looks less like exposing the ridiculousness of our culture and more like something smug and ugly.
