Wordsmithing to exhaustion

This is the part I hate about writing. Looking back upon the work in the light of day and seeing just how terrible it is, then having to do more awful work before you can make it better. Good writing is just bad writing that's been fixed up and polished, but you can't refurbish a house before you build it, and building it knowing how rough the edges will be is a humbling experience. I don't know if I'll be able to salvage this mess, but I will try. I really don't want to take it out of the oven on Friday, but I've had that deadline forced on me and I'll do the best I can. At least I have Thanksgiving to work.

One of the problems of having things come easy to you is that it reduces your incentive and experience when the going gets rough. I hate revision and especially reduction, even intellectually recognizing that they are necessary. Now I must put my mouth where my money is and take that next step. I only hope it's not into a void.
