According to this stupid article, Sylvester Stallone and Clint Eastwood both turned down Beverly Hills Cop - the part of Axel Foley went to wise-cracking Eddie Murphy instead.

Sylvester Stallone? Clint Eastwood? As a wise-cracking BLACK cop from Detroit? Not sure if I buy it.

Would the movie have been played straight? It couldn't have possibly worked. It would have been a disaster. And if Stallone had brought his comic "Chops" to the role? We already HAVE Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot

It amazes me sometimes what a part happenstance plays in making a good movie. But for the grace of Sylvester Stallone's agent Beverly Hills Cop would have been an unbearable pile of crap.
